Our Solution
The IEC 62056 communication protocol is supported via use of an external gateway. The gateway is used to establish the communication with the IEC 62056 slave using DNP3 master on the simulator side and DNP3 slave on the gateway side. One or multiple IEC 62056 slaves (which are typically smart meters) can report analog and digital measurements to the simulator through the gateway. The gateway will receive data from the IEC 62046 slave(s) and retransmit this data to the simulator using DNP3. The equipment used to perform the protocol conversion is the SMP 4/DP gateway made by Eaton. The equipment comes with a configuration software (SMP Manager) that is used to configure protocols involved in the communication chain. Documentation from the gateway manufacturer can be found here. Contact us for more information on this approach.
