FPGA-Based PHIL/RCP Simulation of an Electric Vehicle

Author : Danielle S. Nasrallah, Michel Lemaire, Jean Bélanger, Loic Boulon

This paper presents the simulation of an electric vehicle featuring: (i) pmsm motor, (ii) power electronics,(iii) batteries, (iv) mechanical drive modeling (taking road profiles into account) and (v) observers and controllers. The simulation will be achieved in two steps: (i) HIL/RCP where the system is divided into two realtime simulators, the first dedicated for the electric vehicle and the second for the controller and (ii) PHIL where a battery is added to the simulated system. Realistic aspects are studied, such as: (i) faults and system failures, (ii) performance of the controllers and (iii) numerical stability.
