In addition to the usual instruments required for conducting conventional open-loop tests on speed governors, the BERTATM Test Bench is equipped with a real-time simulator, generating various signals to be injected into the speed governor and/or the AVR. This innovation makes it possible for the generating unit to behave as if it were operating in an islanded power system, thus allowing you to foresee its contribution to the whole power system frequency stability and validate the governor and turbine models to be used in a larger stability study. Moreover, the simulator includes a power system stabilizer (PSS) emulator that can help you determine if a real PSS could actually improve the generating unit power stability.
